Step beyond the spotlight and discover the creative engine that powers every theatrical production! In this hands-on, immersive class, you’ll gain real-world experience in one of three exciting areas: Lighting, Costumes, or Props. Choose one specialty to focus on for the semester—or explore all three if you’re feeling adventurous!
💡 LIGHTS – Illuminate the Stage
If you’re not afraid of heights (up to 20 feet), lighting could be your spotlight!
- Learn how to hang, focus, and maintain professional lighting instruments
- Get hands-on with various fixtures and discover what makes each one shine
- Dive into Lighting Design Workshops (when available)
- Light parties happen Sundays from 1 PM – 5 PM — yes, they’re called parties for a reason!
👗 COSTUMES – Dress the Part
Work closely with the costume designer and master to bring characters to life!
- Help build costumes by hand, shop for unique pieces, or select rentals
- Be part of the magic on show nights by assisting with quick changes or costume fixes
- Great for anyone with a creative eye and love for fashion or design
🎭 PROPS – Find or Forge the Perfect Piece
From antique teapots to custom-built oddities, if it’s on stage but not worn or nailed down—it’s a prop!
- Research, source, or create unique props from scratch
- Provide rehearsal props and make stage magic happen
- Flexible work hours—props work happens whenever you can make it work
- Bonus: Access to transportation makes treasure-hunting even easier!

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of acting through hands-on exploration and performance. Students build confidence, develop stage skills, and may even have the opportunity to perform in a live DramaTech Theatre production.
