DramaTech announces Auditions for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Putnam County tabloid-01

Auditions for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will be held on Sunday, January 10th and Monday, January 11th. Callbacks will be Tuesday, January 12th.

Auditions should consist of singing a prepared song and performing a cold read. The prepared song should be around 32 bars of something similar to this show, but not from it, and there will be a piano player to provide accompaniment, if sheet music is brought. Furthermore, no karaoke tracks or CDs may be used.  Accapella singing is discourage

Callbacks will have a short dance sequence.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

You have to keep your head in the game if you want to be the champion of the spelling bee.  For this diverse group of teenage spellers, each presented word carries humorous, heart-wrenching and embarrassing stories of life at home.  Keeping a clear head in the midst of these distractions can cause them to hear that soul-crushing “ding” of the bell – a spelling mistake. Only one can win, the rest get juice boxes.  Light-hearted and funny, the TONY award winning show the 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee features audience participation – can you win the bee?

DramaTech announces Auditions for Five Faces for Evelyn Frost

We all want to be Evelyn Frost – beautiful, young, hip, perfect. Or at least that’s what we are meant to believe from her online persona. Using only language from social media postings, Five Faces for Evelyn Frost will take you on a wild ride as five friends vie to increase their status through what they reveal on the internet’s most notorious and beloved websites. The show runs February 19-20 & 25-27

Auditions are November 22 & 23 at 7pm; Actors only need to attend one day. Auditions will consist of improv and a cold read; you do not need to prepare anything.

WARNING: The show does contain a good bit of adult content.

If you’d like to preview the script (recommended), email [email protected].

Not available to come, but still want to audition.  You can submit a video audition!

As a video audition, please complete the following and submit it by email to [email protected] on Monday, November 24 at 7pm EST:
Video of either the One’s monologue on page 88 or Two’s “monologue” on p. 85 – 86 and any two of the other sides. Click here to locate start and stop places in the sides.
Please make sure we can see your full body in the video and that we are able to hear you.  If you choose to read a scene, make sure you have someone else to be a reader.
This show is unusual in its dialogue. Specificity of storytelling and connection with the other characters through the dialogue as written is key.

Dramatech Offers Classes!

DramaTech offers classes through the School of Literature, Media and Culture.

LCC 2813 – This class teaches students how to integrate technology into a live theatrical event through a combination of directed reading and applied work on a Ferst Center event.

For the course, student will work with Office of the Arts artist Mark Gindick on his show Wingman. Wingman is a show about clowning in the modern age and integrates social media and other forms of technology into the performance. Mr. Gindick would like to streamline the technology in the show. The structure of the class would be to discuss the iterative process of theatre and the inclusion of technology in performance. Students will work individually to devise solutions for the technical challenges of the piece. The instructor and Mr. Gindick will select four projects to continue on to the team phase which has the goal of having a working model in place by the end of the semester. The working model will be included in a workshop production of Wingman as part of the Ferst Center Presents season in the Spring semester. For more about Wingman, visit http://vimeo.com/85880123.

Also check out our one credit hour courses in set construction, lighting, sound, costumes, marketing and acting! For more information, visit www.dramatech.org/classes.

“Othello” Auditions

About the show: Othello has just happily married Desdemona, but their joy cannot last long, thanks to Iago. Jealous for having been passed over for promotion in favor of the untested soldier, Michael Cassio, he will stop at nothing until he uses Desdemona to destroy the two men he hates. The show runs October 30-31, November 5-7 & 12-15 at 8pm.

Auditions are August 23 & 24 at 7pm. Actors only need to attend one day of auditions; Callbacks, if necessary, will be late on the 24th & 25th. Actors should come with a SHORT memorized Shakespearean monologue. Be ready to perform it in different ways as directed. If you do not have a prepared Shakespeare monologue, you can use a different monologue that you have memorized. As a last resort, a written Shakespeare monologue can be provided.*

*not recommended, as it will be the hardest for the actor
