For this diverse group of teenage spellers, each presented word carries humorous, heart-wrenching and embarrassing stories of life at home. Keeping a clear head in the midst of these distractions can cause them to hear that soul-crushing “ding” of the bell – a spelling mistake. Only one can win, the rest get juice boxes.
