THE SAFETY SHOW

A Devised Theatre Piece created by the students of Georgia Tech –

Today’s world is filled with danger. In the age of divisiveness, we are looking for moments of safety.  Using cards collected as part of the Georgia Tech Office of the Arts’ I Feel Safe When campaign, students will use personal story and collected narrative about safety to explore all the way in which we want and need to feel at home in our bodies.

CABARET

In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the CABARET. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, CABARET explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken by English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish.

Book by Joe Masteroff
Based on the play by John Van Druten and
Stories by Christopher Isherwood
Music by John Kander

POST MORTEM

by Bryce Irvin –

Tobey was alive. Was. Now he’s something else. Now there’s a Postman from another dimension in his bedroom. Now two old friends have returned from the past and they have thumbs. Why are they here? How do they know so much about Tobey? What the hell is spaghetti pie? These questions and more in this mysterious play about life, death, and what it means to be a fish.

IN A WORD

by Lauren Yee

Today is the two-year anniversary of Fiona’s son’s disappearance, and still, nothing makes sense to her. Not her blasé husband, the incompetent detective, or the neighborhood kidnapper who keeps introducing himself in the checkout line. As Fiona delves back into her memories of that fateful day, to uncover that crucial missing piece, grief and comedy collide, and ordinary turns of phrase take on dangerous new meanings.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE

With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record; the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and the Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the evening of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison
