President
Alyssa Kuncaitis
In the past two years, DramaTech has become both my family and my passion. After serving on the EC as both Secretary and MAL, I am well acquainted with its operations. I am naturally calm, level headed, organized, and able to manage my time and conflicts effectively. In my interactions with others, I am both patient and empathetic, while still able to make a persuasive argument. Therefore, I will be able to effectively manage the time and personal commitments required to take on the position of President.

As President, I will lead DramaTech to grow internally and expand its presence on and off campus by continuing efforts to reach out to more students and campus organizations as well as organizations and theatres off campus. With the issues surrounding renovations planning, I am willing and ready to take on the responsibility as President to make decisions and compromises. I will do my best to ensure that the club is informed and involved, while at the same time presenting a persuasive voice to administration. I will fight to ensure that DramaTech does not lose its educational and experimental capabilities, or its special position among student organizations. I want to lead DramaTech grow in a way that will benefit members both now and in the years to come. In closing, good things come in good packages, so vote for me!

Graham Sweeney
Over the course of the last three years I have stage managed, directed, marketed, painted, light hunged, improvisized, VT reformatted, workshopped, Policied the Procedures Manual, play readed, Opened the House, Banqueted, Historied and (I’d prefer this stayed between you and I) even acted. I know DramaTech, I understand DramaTech: the culture, the people, the traditions, the toaster… For three years I’ve looked forward to running for President so that I can offer my services… as a member of the Executive Council. (The thoughts you were thinking belong on the quote board. Tsk tsk.) As the Conference Director for the GT Model UN conference, I gained extensive experience organizing and managing both the people and logistics of conferences and special events.

I can be a politician when necessary: which I feel is especially vital as we move forward with our conversations with the administration and the Center for the Arts regarding the arts initiative. I recognize that DramaTech will, much as we may regret it, need to compromise – I feel I can help mitigate and limit these compromises and further our goals and vision with the administration. I’m not going to lie: when I was in England, I felt as though I was missing a significant portion of my daily routine. I’ve lost DramaTech once; I won’t lose it again. So, to conclude: hot daymn, vote for Graham!

Daniel O'Rourke
Since joining DramaTech, I have been involved in performance, technical, and administrative roles, as well DramaTech as a community. I am running for president for many reasons. First of all, I feel I will be able to serve DramaTech well, and function as a strong leader. Secondly, I want to be able to give back to DramaTech, from which I have gained so much as its role in my life as a club, theater, and so much more. Furthermore, I am ready to accept the responsibilities as president, and can handle the stresses that go with it. If elected president, I will make sure that we continue positive relations with the administration of Georgia Tech, and that our voice as a club continues to be heard. I also take the concerns and sanity of all club members as a priority, and would be around to listen. I will make sure that the EC, committees, and the club as a whole continues to act to the benefit of all club members.

I have experience on the Executive Counsel, specifically as Business Manager, and have been able to take on the responsibility that is required for managing DramaTech’s finances, as well as performing and doing technical work for various shows. I have been able to handle the responsibility and have done well for DramaTech financially. I will continue to seek a co-op, but as for the time being my schedule has me present during the Fall and Spring semesters, while I would ensure the responsibilities of president are taken care of during the Summer.

Business Manager
Devon Peet
While some of you may know me better as Benny, my interest in finances do not just lie in collecting the rent, but also in helping to manage the theatre. Several things have set me up well for this position. I’ve worked in Retail at Old Navy, as well point of sale at places like the Gwinnett arena for the past several years. I’m also in the Technology and Management Program at Tech, and plan on taking a finance class fall semester. Additionally, during my senior year of high school I produced a play extracurricularly, and as the producer, dealt with all the purchases which were essentially out of pocket until ticket pre-sales and sales came in which made asset management and accounting very important. I’m very excited and honored to be nominated for this position, and I’ll make sure that Cyber Arts does not make a digital, virtual, interactive studio here.

Tejas Kotak
I am a third-year Environmental Engineering and Public Policy student, and DramaTech has been a large part of my university life since my first day at Georgia Tech. Ever since I first came to DramaTech, I have tried to keep in touch with the operations of EC so that I could understand the day-to-day upkeep of the theatre. This involvement has increased significantly during the Ellington administration to a point where I am comfortable voicing my own opinion on certain matter during EC meeting if I feel that my opinion is pertinent to the discussion. I have been a part of the production and/or tech teams for a number of shows, the majority of which I have Sound Designed for, but I have also oped and stage managed shows. With this experience, I believe that I have a good understanding of the technical requirements of the theatre, and I would do my best as Business Manager to allow us to continue to create high-quality shows.
I am around the theatre quite frequently during the week, and I encourage you to approach me with any question, comments, or concerns you may have for me.

Brook Rush
I spent 7 years with an organization called Future Business Leaders of America, a high school national organization that teaches business skills to students. I've helped form budgets for a national competing chapter, I've lead community service projects and managed the donations associated with those, I've taken accounting classes and am comfortable dealing with ledgers, I've been in charge of ticket sales at high school football games. I nominated myself for this position because I feel I am capable of preforming the responsibilities well and efficiently. I can handle tremendous stress (21 hours semesters while being an actor) and still function coherently.

As a part of DramaTech, I have been an actor in two Variety Tech shows and worked as sound and light ops for improvisational tournaments and shows. I've assumed the role of historian for two semesters and still work the camera for many of our shows. Not a weekday goes by that I'm not in the green room and I can always find a . I'm a computer science major with my threads being platforming and intelligence and I hope to bring that into the Business Manager position to make upkeep activities easier for myself and future Business Managers. I will be here over the summer, my remaining semesters will be minimal (15 hours maximum, purely for HOPE requirements), I plan to graduate next spring.

Production Manager
Miles Johnson
This semester I have served as Master Electrician. I have also held a few grip positions. For the coming year I would like to extend my experience to include production manager. This position is very e-mail based, something I am proficient with and check frequently. Like many, this job has busy moments and down periods, somewhat similar to this semester which saw us put on two shows. Next semester I plan on taking 18 hours, including thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, but I am not expecting the load to be overwhelming. If elected, I will be unable to hold ME, so a current club member would need to fulfill those duties. Overall the job looks fun and I look forward to the opportunity to continue flexing my metaphorical leadership muscle.

Josh Mysona
As production manager I want to accomplish three things. First, I want to effectively bring the leadership talent I have developed both at Dramatech and other organizations to the position. Second, I'd like to ensure smooth communication between the technical groups that make a show happen. Finally, I don't know nearly enough to do an effective job at the present time. If elected I plan on discussing with each of the technical groups at DT what their specific challenges are in the coming year, and what must be done that they can meet them.

Marketing Director
John Quinn
Dramatech has become a home for me throughout this year, and I look forward to being able to give back even more, by going beyond acting. I am intent on using the sort of large scale marketing we’ve seen with Rent, be it through flyers, posters, social media, etc., for all of our shows. I’ve had plenty of experience with leadership in the past, and feel that I can put my creativity to full use in this position for next year. If you have any questions, about anything, you can come and talk to me sometime. You can usually find me on one of the couches upstairs.

David Quigley
Firstly, I have extensive experience with all aspects of running DramaTech, including Marketing. Though I have never functioned as Marketing Director in the past, I have marketed our shows extensively, and assisted with some aspects of marketing material production. In addition, some of the skills for developing marketing materials (e.g. Illustrator) are useful skills for my degree, and working in those systems has another motivation for me. I have previous experience with graphic design, and can complete any designs if necessary. Finally, I also have extensive experience with group management, delegation, and deadlines through my past experiences as Business Manager and President, as well as through my research work.

If elected Marketing Director, I have great ideas for places to focus my efforts (which other nominees are welcome to steal). For one, I would like to gather more data on our Marketing methods (much as David Hollis wished to do). I could easily deploy a survey to gather such data (and have extensive experience in research design). For another, I would like to focus on setting firm and explicit deadlines for materials. Finally, I would like to focus on actually teaching some skills and concepts to the Marketing class, rather than just "using" them. These would include software skills in Illustrator and similar systems as well as concepts about branding, advertising runs, and timing, among other things.

Secretary
Ryan Evans
I'm Ryan Evans, a first year civil engineering student, and I would make an awesome choice for secretary. I feel I have proved my dedication to the theatre during this school year. Currently, I'm a performer and assistant costumes in Rent. I worked house for One Acts and VT, and I try to support LTT whenever possible. I also served as ASM for Streetcar, which is basically the secretary of the show (I was told I was an awesome ASM). I understand the workings of many different aspects of the theatre, and it is imperative the secretary understands different viewpoints in order to communicate needs between all aspects of the theatre. I am extremely well organized, and I always know what is going on. I understand the duties I must take on when elected secretary, and I am ready and willing to hop on board the EC and keep this clubbing running effectively and efficiently. Plus, we need male secretaries every so often.

Rook Jarrett
My name is Rook Jarrett, and I believe I can serve the theatre well as your secretary. As MAL last semester, I was able to get a feel for the workings of the EC and will be able to adjust well to this position. I understand that there is a great deal of organization required for secretary, and as I enjoy taking notes and keeping organized files, I know I would be able to fulfill that requirement. I am extremely committed to this club, as I have participated in various shows and am also a member of LTT, in addition to having class (as we all do) and a job. DT is extremely important to me, and want to do all that I can for the theatre. I'd like to be even more involved in the EC than I was as MAL, as I intend to run for other EC positions in the future and want to further understand them. I hope that you'll consider me a worthy candidate.

Elections for Marketing Director

Wed Nov 09 2011 at 09:55 PM

Nominations for Marketing Director are now closed. Speeches will be at the next club meeting on November 16th, and Elections will be the following meeting on November 30th, The candidates are:

Tejas Kotak
Tamil Periasamy
Kevin Sabato

Their platforms are listed below:

Tejas Kotak
I am a third-year Tech student studying Environmental Engineering and Public Policy, and I have been continuously involved with DramaTech since the Open House week of my freshman year. I have worked on a number of shows from both the performing and the technical sides, so I have a good understanding of the processes behind each.

While my foray into the marketing aspect of shows has been hitherto minimal, consisting mainly of putting up fliers and some chalking, I believe that I would make a good marketing director for the upcoming Spring semester.

I would be more than willing to consider any and all marketing ideas presented to me by other club member if I am elected. My own ideas range from the traditional posters, fliers, and chalking, an increased use of our Facebook and Twitter pages, and trying to open up talks with Buzz Studios to see if they would like to partner with us in creating promotional videos or trailers for our shows.

A large part of marketing director is meeting deadlines, and ergo good time management is a vital quality to have. During the Spring 2011 and Summer 2011 semester I held research positions with weekly deadlines that I had to meet, and I had to coordinate my schedule so that I had ample time to complete my assignments. This past semester working as sound designer for Streetcar has also been a great experience in time management for me. I mapped out a plan for myself a the beginning of the semester, and I made any appropriate changes to it after each production meeting if I felt the need to. I would do the same for the marketing director position.

In addition to marketing director, I believe that I would also make a good EC member. I have tried my best to attend EC meetings and be vocal on important club matters to both the EC and the club in general since the Quigley administration, and I would feel quite comfortable doing so in a more official manner if I am elected.

Kevin Sabato
For those of you who don't know me: I am a sophomore Mechanical Engineering student here at Tech. I have participated in the technical side of the Theater since Open House of my freshman year, focusing mainly on lights. As a result, I am intimately familiar with the work that goes into preparing a production, as well as the time required of the Marketing Director to successfully advertise a show.

As Marketing Director, I would implement a more complete marketing campaign for each show, including putting out a public call for auditions and making sure word about a production gets out much earlier. For example, if I were to hold this position, I would put out a poster call for the One Acts and RENT prior to Christmas break, and would likely create a flyer to go out on campus to increase awareness of the upcoming auditions for both.

Effectively, I would ensure that our productions would gain more attention than before, earlier than before. I would make strict deadlines for production marketing and ensure that I stick to them rigidly. Historically, I have always been good about meeting goals and deadlines, and I am known to put all the necessary effort into a production to ensure that it attains its full potential. As Marketing Director, this would not change. Ideally, after my tenure, DramaTech would be a stronger and more visible organization, with plans in place to increase its growth in the upcoming semesters.

I am open and receptive to ideas and thoughts regarding our upcoming shows, so I would be glad to talk to any club members with suggestions. Just come up and ask me, and I will do what I can to make your ideas a reality. Thank you for your time. :)

Tamil Periasamy
"Next semester at DramaTech will be a very important one, probably more important than any other semester in the history of sentient life. With a triple-feature Student-Directed One Act show, Rent (our spring musical) that will run for an unprecedented number of shows, as well as the return of improv bi-weekly shows, Marketing needs to take a new direction in addition to cementing (hah, get it? because this is a "platform" ...) old initiatives. Given my vast marketing experience, both at DT as well as through internship and work ventures, I can make sure that our marketing initiatives are creative, innovative, and viral ... and therefore will lead to sold-out shows.

I was interim Marketing Director during the Summer 2009 semester, and successfully marketed both our summer VarietyTech show and our summer show "Deathtrap" then. Particularly with "Deathtrap", I employed new marketing directions, such as: ads on the radio (NPR and Spice 1040), event listings on popular Atlanta event websites, and social media. In particular, I created and pushed for the active use of Facebook and Twitter in order to reach our wide fan base. Since my time as interim MD, I have continued to help out Marketing whenever I am asked to assist, such as designing posters and video commercials. As Marketing Director, I will continue to make these ventures more robust, without going over.

Some ideas I have for the spring semester include: special flash-based and video (possibly animated) commercials for our shows, increased communication with LTT! and their PubWolf, looking into creative viral marketing initiatives for shows (including paraphernalia), as well as continuing the marketing initiatives that I started back in Summer 2009. I promise that I shall bring a new wave of successful Marketing initiatives to DramaTech, ones that will not disappoint. In short, I shall promise to: Market ALL the shows!

EC Platforms

Mon Feb 28 2011 at 01:56 PM

Sam Whited – President
Hello! If you don't know me—and you should—my name is Sam Whited. I am a third year student studying Mechanical Engineering and Physics.

Since coming to Tech, I have been involved in almost every aspect of DT life. I have built sets, acted, stage managed, and been on several committees such as the Banquet and Open House committees. This past year I chaired the Play Reading Committee; I also regularly attend Executive Council (EC) and club meetings. As a result, I have an intimate understanding of how the club functions. I am well placed to coordinate the EC, and interface with other organizations at Georgia Tech.

If elected, I would like to bring DramaTech into the eyes of the wider Atlanta theater community by building relationships with other organizations, and working with the marketing director to expand our marketing campaign off campus. I would also like to continue the work of the current EC in revising and pruning the PPM.

I am a strong leader who is willing to listen, and accept input from the club. I am almost always around during the day, and invite you to ask me any questions you may have about my platform, our club, or myself. As Walter Cronkite said: That’s the way it is.

Melinda Ellington – President
My name is Melinda Ellington, and I am running for the office of President of DramaTech. I am a fourth year International Affairs and Modern Languages student, and for those of you who I haven't gotten to know very well (as I took a hiatus fall semester of '10), I've been around and helped out with most aspects of the theatre, including being Secretary of DramaTech '08-'09.

As president, I would see my chief responsibilities as liaison between DramaTech and other organizations on campus, and as 'people management' within the club (basically, managing and staffing committees, stepping into unfilled leadership roles as needed, and communication between various entities/committees within the club).

Having worked as secretary of DramaTech, as well as working as a secretary professionally for almost 6 years, I am very prompt with communications and am used to dealing with stressful situations. I am also very organized and efficient - in past semesters I have had to balance club commitments with school, part-time work and internships, and have managed to do so while maintaining a good GPA. My leadership experience is limited to my high school drama club and some later stage managing, but I am eager to step up to this challenge. In addition to organization and efficiency, I welcome ideas and critiques to help me be the leader you wish me to be - good leadership isn't built off just one person, but of the collaboration with those around the leader.

In closing, I would like to state that DramaTech has been my home and support on campus during the time I've been at Georgia Tech - without this group of people, I would surely have given up and gone to UGA a long time ago. I offer my services to the club and will continue to serve in any capacity needed. If there are any questions, please feel free to call, email or just plain track me down - I'm happy to answer anything you'd like to ask.

Daniel O'Rourke – Business Manager
I am running for Business Manager because it is the position to which my talents are best suited for helping the club, and because I am the candidate that would best fit the position. If elected Business Manager, I will be present during the Summer semester, and either the Fall or Spring semesters, or both depending on a co-op; however I will most likely be absent for the Fall semester. I very passionate about my membership at DramaTech, as can be seen by the depth and breadth of my involvement here. The role of Business Manager involves making and balancing the budget and running it through SGA, filing paperwork such as reimbursements, and managing box office sales. I have had years of experience balancing my own budget having worked and filed taxes for years, and have shadowed Douggie, the current Business Manager, in an attempt to present the current budget plan for the upcoming year to SGA. As for filing reimbursements, I have also worked with Douggie in learning the procedure of filing reimbursements. As for my experience with sales, I have held two jobs simultaneously for the better part of my high school life, and whenever home on break. I worked in retail as customer service and helped management file daily revenue forms. I also worked as an EMT on my local ambulance corp.

The traits that I specifically can bring to the office of Business Manager are my work ethic, devotion, and compassion. I am a very hard worker, and make sure I get the job done well, and efficiently. I have a very strong personal vested interest in DramaTech, and through my experience here, it has served as more than just a club for me; DramaTech is a unique community that I am a part of. I want the club to thrive for all club members, and as Business Manager, I would be able to work to that effect, by ensuring its financial stability. Additionally, I strongly feel that club members should feel comfortable expressing any problems or concerns, club related or otherwise, to any and all members of the EC because they are leaders. I am a caring person who is more than happy to listen to anyone who is having trouble, even if that is not an expressed duty of the Business Manager.

While some may criticize that I may be young, running for Business Manager for my sophomore year, I would be able to take on the position because in my time here, I have hit the ground running, getting a wealth of experience in the club from many aspects. I spend a great deal of time here, and have learned quite a lot from others before me. There has yet to be a large production I have not had either a stage or technical part in, and I struggle to think of a smaller production. I have worked in both acting and technical aspects of shows. I have been thoroughly involved in the club, and have learned a great deal from my peers

If elected Business Manager, I would work to continue the growth of the club, and organization of finances. Specifically, I would simplify the process for reimbursements, by printing envelopes with all the information needed for reimbursement. This would not only make the process easier to understand, but also speed up the processing of reimbursements and ensure that there are no delays due to forgotten information. I would also establish a preliminary budget for productions with designers to establish a “ballpark estimate” at the very start of a production and iron out what is feasible to afford earlier, and then work out a more specific official budget in a timely fashion.

Andrew Dluhy – Business Manager
I’m a fourth year student, and I have been active with DT for the past year. I was nominated for Business Manager, and I’m excited for the opportunity to become more involved with DT. As I see it, the Business Manager’s job is to make sure everyone has the funding necessary to do t heir job, through preparing the yearly budget, managing monies, and handling reimbursements. I have held similar positions in organizations before, and have worked as a cashier so I am familiar with handling money and the responsibility of being in charge of several accounts. At my job I often have to order supplies for myself and other full-time employees, so I am experienced in allocating money and other materials to different groups.

Tejas Kotak – Business Manager, Secretary
Most of you probably know who I am, but I’ll give myself a short introduction before going into the more important information. My name is Tejas Kotak. I am currently a second year student studying Environmental Engineering and Public Policy. I have been a DT member since the open house of my freshman year. Since then I have tried to be as active as I can in club activities. I performed as supporting characters in two plays, sound designed for two, sound oped for one, and assistant stage managed for another.

DramaTech has become a large part of my life on both a day-to-day basis as well as a major time commitment during shows. I want to become a larger part of its operations outside of just participating in shows, though, and this is why I am running for an EC position. I have reviewed the PPM page on the position I am running for, and have also spoken with people who have done it in the past. Due to this, I have a good understanding of what my expected duties would be. If elected, I know that I will be able to manage my time effectively with both my EC duties, class, and other DT activities. This semester I am taking nineteen hours, four of which involve self-disciplined research, so I believe that I can properly manage the necessary hours involved in holding an EC position.

I have been on several committees before -- both in and outside of DramaTech – one of which held members of several other student organizations as well members of various administration departments. As such, I have a familiarity with the dealings within the Institute in regards to getting measures approved as well having proper funding. With respect to DramaTech, I understand the need for administrative processes we go through with the school, the SGA, and CFA, and I would like to be a part of these processes for the club.

I am part of the co-op program at Tech, and I may start a co-op job next Spring. While I hope to stay in the Atlanta area (and therefore on campus) there is the chance that I will be in another part of Georgia or even out-of-state. If elected I will be heavily encouraged to apply only in the Atlanta area, but, all the same, I want it to known and kept in consideration that I may not be able to fulfill my duties during the Spring semester.

David Hollis – Marketing Director
The primary goal of the Marketing Director in our organization is to bring people into the building. This takes two forms: letting students who are interested in any aspect of the theater know how they can get involved, and letting potential audience members know when and where they can see our shows. Both are crucial to our continued existence as a student organization. The first ensures that we continue to draw in the talent necessary to produce shows at the scale we currently do; the second ensures that we can continue to demonstrate to SGA and others that we provide a service to the campus community.

I feel that my most important qualification for the office is that I have held it before. Through being the Marketing Director during the 2008-2009 academic year, I learned a lot about the position (and about time management!). If elected, I hope to employ this knowledge to do an even better job than I did the first time through. In addition to my previous experience, my schedule will be relatively light; I am doing research over the summer (taking no classes) and will be taking at most 12 hours in the Fall.

I will be graduating in December, so there may be some concern about electing a new MD right before we need to begin work on the Spring show and the musical. My current plans have me in Atlanta for the entire Spring 2012 semester (and possibly longer), so I will be able and more than willing to help out with whoever is elected as my replacement.

The two biggest things I would like to accomplish as Marketing Director are establishing a living best-practices document and evaluating our current marketing practices. For the first, I hope to create a page (or group of pages) in the Greenroom site which will contain guides to common tasks related to marketing (i.e., designing a program cover with bleeds, ordering posters from PCS, etc.). Such things are too specific to be included in the PPM and can change often, yet having them written down will help both future Marketing Directors and anyone who wants to work on marketing-related jobs.

My second goal is to evaluate which of our current marketing strategies (posters, chalking, word of mouth, etc.) are most effective. At present, a lot of work goes into marketing a show, but we don't have any way of knowing what things we do bring in the most people. Armed with information about the impact of our efforts, we can begin to emphasize the more effective strategies and to improve the less effective ones.

Travis Gasque – Marketing Director
First let me apologize for missing the speeches Wednesday (3/16). I had a major test and several assignments due the next day.

In my opinion the top responsibilities of the Marketing Director are: 1) To spread DramaTech’s name to all students on the Georgia Tech campus and to all the inhabitance of the greater Atlanta area. 2) Keeping the members of the DramaTech up to date on current needs and information as they pertain to marketing 3) Keep both members of DramaTech and the greater Atlanta area up to date with the various events, plays, and productions happening with or through DramaTech

Because my upbringing and the people I’ve hung out with in college a lot of the people I know do not know who or where DramaTech is, much less what events are being help on a monthly basis. In order to change this have lots of plans including:

Enlist the help of 91.1 WREK Georgia Tech own student radio, with their help we can accomplish a number of thing including but not limited to: 1) Create Promo’s giving small blurbs about the various things DramaTech does 2) Ability to give away our tickets through on air contests that will spread the DramaTech name through out greater Atlanta area. 3) Create a greater pool from which DramaTech can draw talent

Also I plan to update some of the posting locations for the different posters we make. These places include the listings here: http://plone.dramatech.org/greenroom/hhgtdt/suggestions-temporary/postering-locations-on-campus ; but also include the library, CRC and other high foot traffic areas.

For my qualifications I have attached a copy of my resume: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rphs-2bFwfuLIw1y4VtAwJZ6wGJybrSOuIRtzL2Ksl8/edit?hl=en&pli=1&authkey=CPTu1PQD#

I have a car for ease of accessing and spreading of collateral materials

I have a large number of contacts to draw from in order to find willing participants to design our posters and programs (These include, but are not limited to, my Fraternity Kappa Sigma, Science Fiction Research Group, and my old Co-op company Porex Technology). Also one of these contacts is a profession photographer who, if we want, can do the various headshots needed throughout the year: http://jasonhalesphotography.com/

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at tgasque@gmail.com. I am almost always within reach of email and will try to answer your question in a timely manner.

Andrew Nemchik – Production Manager
My name is Andrew Nemchik and I am running for the Executive Council Position of Production Manager. My platform points are dependability, experience, and organization.

I am dependable in both my academic and professional responsibilities and take pride to ensure my projects are completed in a timely manner.

I have technical experience pertinent to being production manager. I have served as Master Carpenter for four shows, which involved sending out reports and giving updates for production meetings. I have also helped out whenever I can in other capacities. I have also acted in some shows so I bring a perspective that takes into account the technical and acting aspects for shows.

I am organized. I do my best to be prepared and ensure effective project completion. As production manager, there are several initiatives I would like to bring about. I would create a map of the shop in order to standardize tool positions. I would bring back departmental production meetings to ensure that time in production meetings can be maximized for interrelations. I would also like to create recommendation documents for each technical position, in which previous members can give advice and recommendations to help new members serving in the position. Finally, I would like to schedule monthly cleaning parties to supplement the beautification days.

Regardless of whether I am elected, I plan on remaining active in Dramatech and will continue to serve in whatever capacity the club needs me to.

Graham Sweeny – Production Manager
I joined the DramaTech family in Fall 2009 – the sixth out of seven theatre companies I have worked with since I began my involvement with the theatre in 2000. Though I have focused primarily on performing and stage managing (and a dabble or two into set construction/painting) at DramaTech, I do have prior experience with most areas of theatrical production including lighting, sound, and directing.

To my mind, the Production Manager is essentially the stage manager of the theatre: he or she needs to know what is going on at all times, needs at least a rudimentary technical knowledge, needs to have a wide berth of experience, and needs to be capable of delegating tasks. Having been involved heavily involved the last few semesters as a performer, stage manager, and Historian, I am consistently in the DramaTech building and – even when I’m on another continent – up to date on the latest going-ons. Having served with two Executive Councils, as the head of the History Committee, and on the Play Reading Committee, I generally know what decisions are being made and what is occurring in the Black Box and in our relationship with the Ferst Center. Though I am not an engineering student, I am familiar with the functioning of the sound and light boards we use, the microphones, spotlights, the computer programs (e.g., Q-Lab) we use for cuing, the various saws and power tools, and numerous other technical processes and aspects. As was aforementioned, I have assisted over my time in this and other theatres in many aspects of the theatre from costume construction to play selection, from direction to set construction, from spotlighting to performing. I find that the best officers have a healthy mixture of experiences and talents. Finally, I enjoy working with others and have done my best to always discover people’s strengths and use those to the betterment of whatever project I am working on. In the theatre that means applying those skills others possess to specific areas of design and preparation. I have worked with the majority of individuals at DramaTech and know many of their strengths. I would feel comfortable assigning production positions based upon this knowledge and upon the advice of others. And though I do value experience highly, I am always willing to give the opportunity to experience something new.

To conclude, I have the experience necessary to serve as the Production Manager of DramaTech Theatre. So [please enjoy the cheesy tagline:] vote for experience and vote for a well-rounded DramaTech. Thank you.

Alyssa Kuncaitis – Secretary
I think I am a good candidate for Secretary. I have served on the EC this semester as the MAL and I served as the secretary of Nation Honor Society at my high school. Therefore, I have experience as both an EC member and a club secretary. My responsibilities as secretary if elected would be to take meeting minutes at all meetings, send out the weekly update, and to keep the DramaTech website up to date, as well as to check the DramaTech mailboxes regularly and managing mailing lists, responding to emails sent to the info list. If I am elected as secretary, I will send out the weekly update every week on time the night after EC meetings, and I be available for people to tell me in person what they need to go out in the update in addition to being able to send things to me by email. I will also update the website at least once or twice a week as needed, and more often when the club is busy with business such as elections so that the website is kept as up to date as possible. I would like to be elected as secretary because I recognize the importance of the secretary position to manage club correspondence and publishing club information, and I am willing to put in the effort to improve the efficiency of the secretary position and the club as a whole by serving as secretary.

Miles Johnson – Secretary
I would preform the duties of secretary well because I already do many of the same tasks. I attend all my classes (meetings), I take notes during those classes (meetings), I check my mail box and get mail if it's there! I check my email every day and use the Internet! I can also explain how bread can go into a toaster and toast will pop out. I haven't actual been a secretary before, but I see no reason I would be bad at it. Also, check this short platform. Sort of sounds/reads like meetings notes.

*The Count of Monte Cristo
Adapted by Charles Morey, from the novel by Alexandre Dumas**
Betrayal, obsession, and redemption provide the backdrop for this adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic novel that centers around wrongly imprisoned Edmond Dantes who escapes jail to enact his revenge on those who betrayed him. As he becomes increasingly consumed with his quest for vengeance, he loses his humanity and any hope of reconciling with the love of his life.

"...an impeccably solid piece of theatrical work...the whole thing thrilling from swash to buckle..."

                                                     **--The Wall Street Journal**

Artstic Director's Choice - TBD

*Little Shop of Horrors
Book and Lyrics by Howard Ashman
Music by Alan Menken**
A down-and out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite!

“Leaves the audience... feeling just like Audrey II between victims - ravenous for more."

                                                     **--The New York Times**

"This horticultural horror will have you screaming with laughter..."

                                                      **--New York Post**

Eurydice
By Sarah Ruhl**
In
Eurydice*, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.

"EXHILARATING!! A luminous retelling of the Orpheus myth, lush and limpid as a dream where both author and audience swim in the magical, sometimes menacing, and always thrilling flow of the unconscious."

                                                      **--The New Yorker**

2010-2011 Season Options

Thu Feb 18 2010 at 08:20 PM

The options for our 2010-2011 season are:

Fall Show
Count of Monte Cristo
Dracula
Summer Show
Eurydice
Perfect Crime
Musical
Sweeney Todd
Little Shop of Horrors

Due to the change of show choices, we did not have a synopsis of Sweeney Todd on the original document. Here it is...

Synopsis
The rare instance of a musical thriller, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe!

Sophisticated, macabre, visceral and uncompromising, “Sweeney Todd” nevertheless has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor: audiences find themselves laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in surprise the next.

Cast Breakdown:
7 Men
3 Women
Plus Ensemble

Technical Breakdown:
Requires a barber's chair that drops people down to another level, heavy blood, possible two level set, and period costumes.

Click here to see summaries of the shows as well as cast sizes and technical breakdowns. Scripts will be available in the greenroom or you can click here to download copies of the scripts and music.

Voting will occur at the next club meeting, Wednesday March 3rd at 6pm. Email prc@lists.dramatech.org for more information and proxy voting.

Production Manager Elections

Sat Nov 28 2009 at 03:36 AM

As the nominations for the new PM have been closed, the candidates are: - Keller Smith - Jessica Gibson

Elections will be held at the upcoming club meeting, on December 1st at 6pm. If you have not had the opportunity to get to know either of the candidates, their platforms are posted below in alphabetical order.

Jessica Gibson

I have been a member of DramaTech since fall 2002 and have been involved with every aspect of production. I've held numerous positions, but have primarily focused on stage management. I usually work backstage, but I have performed with LTT! and as a musician with DramaTech. I've been involved with more shows then I can count and while I am not currently heavily involved in DramaTech, I have been in the past and am aware of the heavy time commitment and responsibilities being Production Manager entails.

My strengths focus largely around management and organization. I have organized a variety of conferences and events over the last decade which have allowed me opportunities to develop leadership, and organizational and management skills.

This semester, one of the largest challenges facing DramaTech is the musical and its move to CFA. I have participated in several musicals that have made this move and I am aware of the need to be organized and having a strong team that understands all aspects of the move. Due to the tight time schedule, we need have all parts of the move well planned and coordinated. I am one of the few people around who has participated in the move to CFA and I have seen many of the ways that the move can go badly. This experience will help me guide the production to avoid these pitfalls.

I see the role of Production Manager to be someone who assigns positions and then supports the production staff and the show. One of the great things about DramaTech is that it gives you real responsibility. During my time as an undergraduate, it was these chances to succeed and fail that taught me the most important things: leadership, working as a team, patience, and listening. The Production Manager is there to help make sure you have the best opportunity for success, but ultimately the work is on the members to make the production a success. I can help and guide, but can not and will not do the work for the members.

Many of you do not know me and you really cannot get to know someone in a short statement. I tend to be rather straightforward when dealing with things that matter and don't have a lot of patience for subterfuge or people being hurtful or causing trouble for the sake of causing trouble. I am organized and expect others to show up prepared and ready to work with a good and professional attitude. It matters more to me that you are willing to work, learn, and support the others in DramaTech than if you have more experience. I do expect everyone to pitch in with shows when help is needed.

I am currently getting my Masters in International Affairs and received my Bachelors in 2006 from Georgia Tech. I am the Executive Director of the Georgia Planning Association, a non-profit organization of professional planners and planning officials who serve Georgia's communities. I work part time for GPA and my duties focus largely around conference planning, member services, and organizational development.

Keller Smith

I feel that I am best qualified to be Production Manager because I am hard working, able to set schedules, and able to be a leader, mentor and friend. If selected, my focus will be communication, transparency, and accountability from both myself and throughout my production team.

I will focus on building a dynamic and collaborative production team which works not only on putting on the best show possible, but also on preparing potential designers and crew chiefs for future shows. I will make sure that we give every member the support and resources necessary to fulfill their job. I also understand that each person on my team is a student first, and will encourage them to bring up any problems early so that we can find the best possible solution. I will focus on both recruiting new members and getting them experience and training to ensure we have new generations of experienced people to continue DramaTech's great tradition.

Now for a couple of promises: I will post hard copies of crew lists along with cast lists. I will respond to every position call to confirm receipt, and will follow up with each once selections have been made. I will post production meeting minutes on our website. Finally, I will keep the club well informed of what I am doing and will be open to opinions from every club member, regardless of whether they are a long-time veteran, or if they just rang the doorbell.

Tue Nov 17 2009 at 11:15 AM

As some of you may know, Sarah Gorday, our Production Manager, has just accepted a job beginning in the Spring. She will be moving to Cleveland, and will be stepping down from her position on the EC at the end of this semester. In light of this, at the last club meeting, we agreed on an abbreviated election procedure that will take place over the coming weeks. This person will hold the position for next Spring, and the club will still have EC elections as normal next semester.

The EC will be accepting nominations for the position of Production Manager till Friday, November 20th. If the nominees accept their nominations, they will have till Tuesday, November 24th, to create a platform and submit it. These platforms will be made available at the club meeting that precedes Dead Week Dinner. Speeches will not be held, but the club will discuss the candidates and then proceed to voting. The candidate that receives the majority of the club's vote will be elected as the new Production Manager for Spring semester.

Deathtrap

Thu Jun 11 2009 at 12:34 PM

To make Sidney's writing slump even more painful, Clifford Anderson, a student in one of Sidney's writing seminars, has recently sent his mentor a copy of his first attempt at playwriting for review and advice. Clifford’s play, Deathtrap, is a two act thriller so perfect in its construction that, as Sidney says states even a master playwright could not hurt it. Using his affinity for plot, and out of his desperate desire to once again be the toast of Broadway, Sidney, along with Myra, cook up an almost unthinkable scheme. They'll lure the Clifford to the Bruhl home, kill him, and market the sure-fire script as Sidney's own. But shortly after Clifford arrives, it's clear that things are not what they seem.

DramaTech mourns the loss of long-time supporter Dean Emeritus James E. Dull

Mon Mar 23 2009 at 01:33 PM

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dean Emeritus James E. Dull. While you may know the name because it sits over the entrance to DramaTech's theatre, you may not know what a great man he was and what a wonderful support he was to DramaTech. Dean Dull took DramaTech under his wing during his long career at Georgia Tech as the Vice President/Dean of Students. He was influential in the acquisition of DramaTech's current home in the Theatre Complex on the campus of Georgia Tech and for this, the theatre bears his name. For more information, please see Dean Dull's full obituary below.

Dean Dull's memorial will be held Sunday, April 5th at 2 pm at Peachtree Christian Church, 1980 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. He has asked for donations to be made to the DramaTech Scholarship or Peachtree Christian Church Columbarium.

More details about a special memorial for the members and alum of DramaTech to come.

James Edward Dull, 80, VP/Dean of Students Emeritus Georgia Tech died March 22, 2009. He was born and reared in Connellsville, PA, the son of James and Anna Jean Dull. Upon graduation from Connellsville High School, he attended Slippery Rock State University, graduating in 1950 with a BS in Biology and Health/Physical Education. In 1991 he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Slippery Rock.

After serving in the Army (1950-52) during the Korean War, he earned a MS degree in Higher Education with certification in Counseling and Guidance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While in the service he was selected to be on the Modern Pentathlon National Training Team to prepare for the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. In 1955, at Miami University, he met and married Gay Kimbrough who was teaching in the Miami University Laboratory School.

In 1957, after five years at Miami and having risen to the rank of Assistant Dean of Men, he accepted a position at Georgia Tech as Assistant Dean of Students. Three years after arriving at Georgia Tech he was made Associate Dean of Students and four years later in 1964 he became the Dean of Students. He retired in 1991 as Vice President/Dean of Students Emeritus. During his 34 years at Georgia Tech, he served nine seated or acting presidents. Enrollment grew from 5,200 in 1957 to 13,000 in 1991. Female enrollment grew from 11 in 1957 to 3,050 in 1991.

Dean Dull was responsible for the coordination of all disciplinary processes and policies. Additionally, he had administrative charge of all Student Personnel Services and activities outside of the curriculum including New Student and Parent Programs, Residence Halls and Family Housing, Student Counseling, Fraternity Affairs, Religious Affairs, International Student Affairs, Community Services, Student Athletic Complex, Health Services, Handicapped Student Services, Student Publications, Student Radio Station WREK, and all student organizations. His pride and joy was serving as advisor to the Student Government and in this capacity he attended weekly meetings for 33 years.

When he retired in 1991 approximately 80% of the living alumni had been students during his career. He remained in contact and corresponded with many of Tech’s alumni since retiring. He was proud of the dramatic growth of Student Affairs facilities, in both quality and number, during his years of service. Residence hall beds grew in number from 1,100 in 1957 to 4,200 in 1991. Family housing units grew from 220 to 300. Construction included a new 60 bed Health Center, a new Student Center, a new Student Athletic Complex, a new Student Services Building and a Theatre Complex including the Dean James E. Dull DramaTech Theatre. For 31 years his family lived on the campus. During this time his wife, Gay, and he were selected to become honorary alumni of Georgia Tech. Together they wrote a book, It’s For You, Thirty-One Years of Our Life On the Georgia Tech Campus. In 1960 he found and acquired the official Ramblin’ Wreck (a 1929 Cabriolet Ford). Later he designed the costume and persona of “Buzz,” the Yellow Jacket Mascot; he also inspired the design of the signet class ring. In an extracurricular “options” program he taught students beginning Ballroom Dancing for 30 years. He also organized a national championship winning GA Tech College Bowl Team and trained the Wreckette Dancing and Drill Team. In retirement he remained active with the Theatre Complex and wrote a “50-year History of DramaTech” and the forerunner drama organization “The Georgia Tech Marionettes.” He was an active member in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Association of Southern Deans, and Southern College Personnel Association. In addition he was a member of ANAK, ODK, Pi Kappa Phi Social Fraternity and Friends of DramaTech. He served on the Council of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center and the Advisory Board of the Greater Atlanta Council of the Boy Scouts of America (Jim was an Eagle Scout), a member of the Partners Class and the official board of Peachtree Christian Church.

Jim is survived by his wife, Gay, two sons: Dr. John R. Dull and wife, Beth of Atlanta and David A. Dull and wife, Cindy of Winter Springs, FL, grandson, Grant Dull and granddaughter, Taylor Dull. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2:00 p.m., at Peachtree Christian Church, 1580 Peachtree Street, N.W., Atlanta, GA 30309. Rev. Neal P. Ponder officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Peachtree Christian Church Columbarium or the DramaTech Scholarship at the Georgia Tech Foundation, 760 Spring Street, N.W., Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30308. A celebration reception at the church will follow the service. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Georgia, Inc.

Arcadia

Mon Nov 03 2008 at 01:26 PM

Set in a lush English manor, Arcadia is a play that revolves between the past and present, blending ideas and events of the past with the present in a completely seamless effort. As manor residents of the present day use old books and objects to reconstruct the events of the past, the past residents live out that history onstage and share the truth, mystery, and genius of their lives. Call For Open House Chair!

Mon May 05 2008 at 02:43 PM

The President is putting out a call for Open House Chair.

Open House is coming up at the end of the summer semester in Preparation for the incoming Hordes of Freshmen.

The primary responsibilities of the Chair are to plan and run the Open House events during the first week of school in order to maximize our group of incoming freshmen. This could be similar to the setup the past few years with a full week of events ending in two nights of performances, or it could be something new and different. This Open House Chair should be around for (at least most of) the summer and should expect to work with a committee of helpers. Anyone interested in the position should email the President with their query.

Beautification Day!

EC Candidate Platforms

Thu Jan 24 2008 at 10:24 AM

Elections take place next Wednesday, January 30th at 6pm in the Black Box. The candidates are:

President

Nikky Saint-Aubin: I know that as President, it must be hard to attend every club meeting, EC meeting, and every other committee meeting, but for me it won’t be anything out of the ordinary. The President should take an active interest in Open House, Banquet, and the PRC and shouldn’t just show up because they have to. They should also attend meetings outside of DT, such as the Student Center Programs Committee, SGA, and the CFA Advisory Board. They should be seen as the face of DT to outside organizations.

I try my hardest every time I am at DT to help make sure things are running smoothly, I help out whenever and wherever I am needed, and I work to help keep everyone, freshmen through seniors, interested but not run down. I believe these are things the president should try and do every single day.
Also, the President should be someone that anyone can come up to. I know the MAL’s job is to act as liaison between the club and the EC, but if anyone has anything they wish to discuss, they should be able to go up to the president and talk to them. Club members shouldn’t feel afraid of the president, or feel that the president isn’t someone they can talk to. The president needs to be a people person.
To wrap up, as president I would do my best to attend every single meeting, both at DT and outside organizations that effect DT. I promise to listen to anyone who has an idea or suggestion as to how DT could be run more efficient, and I will try to help incorporate these good ideas into how DT is run. I also promise to continue being a people person and making myself available to anyone who wants to talk.

Brad Knebel: The president needs to be someone whom is easy to approach, knows a lot about the theatre, and gets along with all types of ppl. I have all 3 of these important qualities. Theatre has been a large part of my life since the age of 10 and because of this i know a lot about have a theatre should be run. As a president it is good to be fair to all aspects of theatre and specifically dramatech. I have done front stage, back stage, directed, and improv. By having been and still being invloved in these differing sepectes i am able and will treat all of them fairly and in the best interest of the club as a whole. because I am very good with dealing with all types of ppl this will help when dealing with other organizations on campus as well as with the new AD that will hopefully be present within the next few semesters. This leads me to a fairly large issue. The person voted as President and Prouction mgr namely will have to show the new AD how dramatech works while adapting the club and the AD to eachother. I believe that my ability to work with many different types of ppl and my knowledge of theatre will make it a smoother transition. So vote for me for President.

Julie Dykas: I deserve your vote for President because I am the best candidate. I have proven myself to be organized, reliable, and responsible during my term as Secretary and through other positions in the theater. If elected President, I will focus my energy and attention on the issues that are vital to the club right now. Two of those issues, club membership and DramaTech’s presence on campus, are recurring problems. I think they can be addressed through thoughtful selection of committee chairs, in particular an organized and reliable Open House Chair, and with careful work with the Marketing Director and Production Manager to arrange Housing Nights and Greek Nights far in advance so that hall councils can plan their spending around us. The biggest issue facing the club in the next year is the new Artistic Director who will be coming in. It is especially important this year that our President be strong, reliable, well-spoken, and a good advocate of the club. I’ve been around DramaTech long enough and have seen enough of the inner workings to know what will be right for DramaTech not just now, but for the future. I will help DramaTech to start off our relationship with the new Artistic Director on the right foot, and make sure that any changes that occur will be positive ones. I’m knowledgeable, responsible, and organized, and I’m ready to take on the responsibilities of this role.

Production Manager

Carlin Bright: As production manager I will focus on scheduling and promptness, communication, and efficiency, both in shows and in the theater as a whole. As marketing director, I have learned how to not only make reasonable schedules and adhere to them, but how to get others to adhere to my schedules as well, while recognizing that being a student comes first and building in cushion time based on that assumption. I would also like to make production meetings accessible to the entire club, with minutes being taken and posted alongside the club minutes. These will not only allow club members to have access to the information disclosed at these meetings, but hold the designers and technicians to a higher accountability. I will also give the show budget more attention at production meetings, encouraging show staff to keep accurate records and to try and stay within their budgets. I am familiar, if not directly experienced, with all aspects of putting on a production, and so would be able to identify and staff capable designers and technicians. Also, I will do my best not only to choose the right people for design positions, but try to choose the best team. We’re a family here, and personal problems are sometimes an inevitability. I will do my best to identify these early, and keep them from affecting a show. I will also encourage people to take on more assistant design positions to diversify the technical knowledge base in the theater and enlarge our pool of designers. I plan to make staff choices more public, posting them alongside cast lists as well as notifying choices to all who were interested through email without undue delay. Finally, I promise to make myself available at the theater at regular times, as well as constantly through email or by phone. I love this theater as much as I know all of you do, and would be more than happy to help keep it running.

Deech Madhavan: There are several key points that I would like to work on as Production Manager. First off, communication between people, such as the designers and director, is something that I would like to overemphasize. This has been a weakness in the past that I would like to address and make sure that people talk to each other. Deadlines are also something that we all have been rather slack with recently. For productions, I will set specific deadlines for various milestones that we must pass through and adhere to them. This will ensure that productions remain on schedule and force designers to not get bogged down in small issues. Nobody likes to be criticized, but I can take criticism and adversity with a straight face and use it in the most constructive way possible. I am also very easy to talk to and am willing and able to listen to people should they have any issues. If people have questions, I am always willing to help out to the best of my ability. If I can't help them, I will make sure that people get in touch with those that can. This also means that when it comes time to pick production staff, I want to incorporate new blood as much as possible, so that the knowledge accrued by the experienced people will be passed down to the novices. I will have an unbiased view on staffing positions. There are many factors to keep in mind, including how big/complicated the show is, experience, how many shows someone has done recently, etc. I want to make sure that people get the positions they request, however, I have to be watchful and make sure that they don't burn themselves out or do it so often that others don't have the opportunities to learn. I want to make sure that the production positions have a clear definition of their duties. When uncertainty exists, conflict can occur that is detrimental to the artistic process and to the production. The Production Manager must act as a liaison between CFA production staff and DramaTech to ensure that they stay in contact with us with regards to their usage of our space and vice versa. The role of Production Manager is something that I will take very seriously. If I am given a task to do, I won't skive off and abandon the job. I will make sure that it is done, no matter what personal sacrifice I may have to make. For past productions, I have been at the theater till early hours of the morning making sure that everything is ready. In conclusion, DramaTech is a place for us to play and learn. It is a hobby and it is important that people know that and are happy with what they are doing . This is something to keep in mind over everything we do. Nothing we do here should be overly stressful or detract from the fun of being an amateur theater, for if we don't have fun with what we do, then what's the point of even being here? People are here to enjoy themselves and learn a great art.

Brad Knebel: The production mgr needs to know the ins and outs of the theatre. He or she needs to be able to know what positions are needed and what they will call for. Since the 6th grade i have been heavily involved in my schools theatre programs in all aspects and that has continued here to dramatech. Another important quality that a production mgr needs to have it that he or she can fairly asses all situations and ppl or that he or she can separate work in pleasure. I have always done my best to keep my feelings about ppl involved with a show separate from the feelings about them as a person. Also, I get along with may different types of ppl and am easy to work with which is a quality needed in a mgr type position as this. Also, the production mgr and the new AD will work vary closly together to figure out how to run this theatre. because of this, the production mgr needs to know a lot about dramatech and also has to be good with dealing with ppl so that the end result is something that the club and the new AD can live with and be happy and work with.So vote for me as production mgr.

Business Manager

Scott McGraw: As business manager for DramaTech theater, I would make it my duty to be as available as possible to the members of the club, and would endeavor to rapidly learn everything necessary to adequately fill the position. Now, while I certainly cannot claim to know everything there is about the theater, my involvement with Let's Try This!, set parties, as well as various other DramaTech activities deserves no small amount of consideration. I expect that during my term as business manager I would be able to maintain the club's confidence in the position, shifting my involvement to yet another facet of DramaTech theater.

Robbie Glenn: As Business Manager, I will make sure that budgets for shows are fair and finalized early in preparation. I will personally meet with designers and directors and will help make decisions about what is needed and what is possible. I plan to work closely with the production manager, because I feel that the two positions thrive on one another. After all, we can’t have a show with no money, and we won’t get any money without putting on some shows. I plan to scrutinize the finances of DramaTech, because I feel that such attention to detail is necessary. I will be here each semester and will keep a close watch on all the happenings of the theater in attempt to increase efficiency.

Nikky Saint-Aubin: There are 3 traits I believe a business manager should have: Dependability, organization, and communication.

Anyone who has worked with me knows that I am dependable. For every show I have costumed, I have had the costumes complete on time, usually even before time. I will make sure to have budgets ready the semester before the show, as per the PPM, and I will use my amazing hounding skill to make sure receipts are turned in and the process of paying people back for receipts gets done in a timely manner.
As for organization, last semester while I was co-oping I became the organizer because no one else wanted or knew how to keep their papers organized. I became the person everyone came to for receipts, papers, or office supplies. I will do my best to keep everything organized so the theater runs smoothly from the monetary stand point.
Last, there is communication. I swear, that while I am business manager, everyone will know exactly what I am doing. Whether I am still collecting receipts, working on budget, getting people paid back, or any other responsibility I have, everyone will know exactly where I am in that process.

Marketing Director

David Hollis: As Marketing Director, I will effectively maintain ties with external organizations and work towards forging new ones. I will organize groups to help with promotion of shows including flyering, chalking, and placing posters. I feel that I am more than capable of handling the pressures and the time requirements of the job.

Secretary

Melinda Ellington:I would be a fantastic choice for secretary for a number of reasons. First of all, I'm pretty organized, and know how to get a job done (example: MacBeth). I have been in a leadership position before at my high school and enjoyed it immensely, and am always eager to take on new responsibilities and challenges. I enjoy keeping people informed on what's going on, and usually have a fairly accurate notion of events. I'm always looking for more excuses to spend time online, so having to check the email would make my day, and I'm a quick typer, so taking minutes would be fairly easy. Aside from these qualifications, I'm a fairly easy-going person, and, in my mind, approachable. This is something that I think is very important for members of the EC, and I would do my best to be able to keep in touch with both sides of the divide. That and I'm looking ahead to the future, and think that I would enjoy remaining on the EC, possibly going for higher positions, although I'm not sure which ones yet. Being Secretary would give me good experience and knowledge of the inner workings of the EC, and it would allow me to become more involved with DT, which is the ultimate goal.

Victoria Schlensker: As secretary of DramaTech, I would keep all members up-to-date on all the activities going on around DT. I know that some people who would like to participate in many events such as set construction are unaware of the schedule. With a little more advertisement, more people would be encouraged to participate and help DramaTech grow even more.

I think that communication between the Executive Council and the other members of DramaTech is essential. I would take very detailed notes during the meetings and make sure that anyone who is interested in the goings-on in DT is made aware of them.
I have learned to manage my time well and I am very organized and dedicated. I think that I am very friendly and people can talk to me easily. I have taken on responsibility around DT both onstage and offstage and I've have already learned a lot in the semester that I have been here. I think that I would learn even more during my time as secretary so I would one day be able to run for Production Manager, Marketing Director or even President.
And Deech: As far as any weakness as secretary, I did come up with one. I still do attend school and at times, I may be preoccupied with homework and studying for tests. However, I have already learned the hard way about time management over the first semester here at Tech, and I will make sure that I organize my time well so I can perform all my duties responsibly.

Executive Council Voting

Mon Mar 05 2007 at 11:07 AM

Voting for next years Executive Council will be this Wednesday, March 7 at 6 pm. The current postitions to be voted on are President, Business Manager, and Secretary. The two nominees, with their platforms, for President are:

  • Eric Sample-As president, I will work on what I see as the two largest problems currently facing DramaTech: our presence on campus (or lack thereof), and recruitment. These both greatly affect the future of our club. To work on our presence on campus, I will reach out to the different colleges on campus to try to set up programs for them to participate with DramaTech, I will contact the Resident Housing Association to get them involved in pitching DramaTech shows as a social event for residents, and will contact the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council along similar lines. These efforts should also help spur recruitment because the more well known DramaTech is to the campus, the more people will come to participate as members. Unfortunately this is not enough for recruitment, because we all know that recruitment greatly depends on getting them early, so I will make it one of my top priorities to keep in contact with the Freshman in the Fall and through the Spring.

  • Nicole Saint-Aubin- I have noticed in my two years here at Drama Tech, that the club is not advertised very well. I believe that we should start advertising the club meetings. Putting up fliers, chalking a few times, and maybe even a banner in front of the Student Center. Talking with different fraternity and sororities as well as people who are PLs and CAs would help as well. The club should not only involve people who are involved in shows, but also people from the college community, so we can get their input as to how we can improve their experience at the shows. Another thing that needs to be changed is how we handle incoming freshman. It seems that as soon as the first week is over, no one is in charge of keeping in touch with the freshman. Many freshman attend so many meetings during the first week, that they tend to forget about them as soon as they leave. I believe that keeping in touch with them, telling them about all the auditions, shows, work and light parties that we have as well as just generally trying to see how they are doing will help improve the number of freshmen that will stay around. I am also very interested in how Drama Tech is run, and I believe this position will help me with that.

The nominees for Business Manager are: * Allison Hundley-I am very interested in learning how DramaTech is run and holding the position of Business Manager would give me that opportunity. I want to take a look at the budget to see if there are ways to set aside more money for the constant recruitment of new DT members. Another example is I would like to maybe move money around in a show so that there would be more money for set design and dressing and a little less for costumes.

  • Nicole Saint-Aubin- I have been told many times over that if you want to learn about the inside workings of DT, you need to talk to the Business Manager. That is exactly what I want to do: learn about how DT works. I had not thought about what I would like to change when I became Business Manager. As far as I knew, everything was being run smoothly. I would try to remind people daily about turning in receipts so they would get paid back in a timely manner, and I would also try and keep track of who bought stuff as they bought it, before I got the receipts, in case anyone forgets. If there was anything not paid back, or any other issues about where money was going and such, I would try my hardest to solve the problem.

The nominees for Secretary are: * Julie Dykas-As secretary I would like to increase communication to the club members, particularly about meeting times. In addition to alerting members of the Facebook group several days in advance, I will post physical notices around DT the weekend before the meeting announcing the day and time as well as anything of particular import that will be on the agenda. I would also put announcements on the DramaTech website. Id also like to post the minutes on one of the notice boards in addition to the website so that people who miss meetings have an easy way to find out what happened. Ive got my schedule very well organized, and manage my time incredibly well. Im great at taking notes and meeting deadlines, and I think I would do an amazing job as secretary. I am definitely interested in running for other positions in the future, though Im not sure yet which one(s). President, Production Manager, and Business Manager are all appealing to me, and I hope that serving as Secretary will allow me to learn enough about the other positions to help me choose.

  • Brittany Roberts-I am a dedicated, organized individual who will enjoy being the secretary of Drama Tech. I don't know of any short term goals to improve the well-being of DT currently, but I will bake something for your votes in order to create short term happiness.

  • Brad Knebel- (Platform not available)

We cannot wait to see everyone at the meeting at 6pm!

We will also be taking our club picture for the Blueprint at the meeting this Wednesday. Anyone who has worked on a DramaTech production should be present at 6:00 pm to be in the picture. This should be a large group shot, so casual dress should be fine.

Improvathon XII

Tue Oct 04 2005 at 11:29 PM

Once upon a time, someone decided it would be a good idea to do 26 straight hours of improv comedy. He was wrong. Nonetheless, DramaTech's Improv Troupe Let's Try This! has been doing it twice a year ever since. Many people around here even think it's a fun time.

All are welcome to attend if they're interested in participating. No prior experience is required, and most prior experience will be unhelpful anyway. Things get started at 10am sharp Saturday October 8th and run straight through to 12 noon October 9th.

Come brave the weird. You know you want to.

Welcome New Students

Wed Aug 17 2005 at 12:00 AM

DramaTech would like to extend a warm welcome to all of Georgia Tech's new students. As usual, DramaTech will be kicking off the new school year with our annual Open House. This is a great way for people on campus to get to know DramaTech, and people's first big opportunity to get involved. Although you should definitely check out the official Open House website for full details, some of what we'll be doing this year is as follows:

  • A picnic style lunch on DramaTech's front lawn at 1pm on Saturday.
  • Auditions for the Muder Mystery Dinner Theater as well as several incoming student produced short one-acts that we're calling The Experiment.
  • Tours of the theater, event signups, a free show.
  • Of course, as always, FREE FOOD.

For those of you who are a little new to campus, you can find us on the campus map here. We're at the opposite end of the Ferst Center building (the big auditorium where you all went for FASET).

From east campus you can find us by walking to the end of Skiles Walkway, turning right, and walking up the hill (past the amphitheater). We're at the top of the hill on your left (look for the stained glass windows).

If you're coming form the west campus dorms you'll walk right past us if you're on the way to the Shaft or anything else in the center of campus. Look for the stained glass on the side of our building along with the DramaTech banner.

Of course, if you have any questions feel free to email info@dramatech.org.
