The Count of Monte Cristo*
Adapted by Charles Morey, from the novel by Alexandre Dumas
Betrayal, obsession, and redemption provide the backdrop for this adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic novel that centers around wrongly imprisoned Edmond Dantes who escapes jail to enact his revenge on those who betrayed him. As he becomes increasingly consumed with his quest for vengeance, he loses his humanity and any hope of reconciling with the love of his life.

Book and Lyrics by Howard Ashman
Music by Alan Menken
A down-and out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite!

Eurydice*
By Sarah Ruhl
In Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.
"EXHILARATING!! A luminous retelling of the Orpheus myth, lush and limpid as a dream where both author and audience swim in the magical, sometimes menacing, and always thrilling flow of the unconscious."
--The New Yorker

Due to the change of show choices, we did not have a synopsis of Sweeney Todd on the original document. Here it is...
Synopsis
The rare instance of a musical thriller, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe!
Sophisticated, macabre, visceral and uncompromising, “Sweeney Todd” nevertheless has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor: audiences find themselves laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in surprise the next.

Jessica Gibson
I have been a member of DramaTech since fall 2002 and have been involved with every aspect of production. I've held numerous positions, but have primarily focused on stage management. I usually work backstage, but I have performed with LTT! and as a musician with DramaTech. I've been involved with more shows then I can count and while I am not currently heavily involved in DramaTech, I have been in the past and am aware of the heavy time commitment and responsibilities being Production Manager entails.
My strengths focus largely around management and organization. I have organized a variety of conferences and events over the last decade which have allowed me opportunities to develop leadership, and organizational and management skills.
This semester, one of the largest challenges facing DramaTech is the musical and its move to CFA. I have participated in several musicals that have made this move and I am aware of the need to be organized and having a strong team that understands all aspects of the move. Due to the tight time schedule, we need have all parts of the move well planned and coordinated. I am one of the few people around who has participated in the move to CFA and I have seen many of the ways that the move can go badly. This experience will help me guide the production to avoid these pitfalls.
I see the role of Production Manager to be someone who assigns positions and then supports the production staff and the show. One of the great things about DramaTech is that it gives you real responsibility. During my time as an undergraduate, it was these chances to succeed and fail that taught me the most important things: leadership, working as a team, patience, and listening. The Production Manager is there to help make sure you have the best opportunity for success, but ultimately the work is on the members to make the production a success. I can help and guide, but can not and will not do the work for the members.
Many of you do not know me and you really cannot get to know someone in a short statement. I tend to be rather straightforward when dealing with things that matter and don't have a lot of patience for subterfuge or people being hurtful or causing trouble for the sake of causing trouble. I am organized and expect others to show up prepared and ready to work with a good and professional attitude. It matters more to me that you are willing to work, learn, and support the others in DramaTech than if you have more experience. I do expect everyone to pitch in with shows when help is needed.
I am currently getting my Masters in International Affairs and received my Bachelors in 2006 from Georgia Tech. I am the Executive Director of the Georgia Planning Association, a non-profit organization of professional planners and planning officials who serve Georgia's communities. I work part time for GPA and my duties focus largely around conference planning, member services, and organizational development.
Keller Smith
I feel that I am best qualified to be Production Manager because I am hard working, able to set schedules, and able to be a leader, mentor and friend. If selected, my focus will be communication, transparency, and accountability from both myself and throughout my production team.
I will focus on building a dynamic and collaborative production team which works not only on putting on the best show possible, but also on preparing potential designers and crew chiefs for future shows. I will make sure that we give every member the support and resources necessary to fulfill their job. I also understand that each person on my team is a student first, and will encourage them to bring up any problems early so that we can find the best possible solution. I will focus on both recruiting new members and getting them experience and training to ensure we have new generations of experienced people to continue DramaTech's great tradition.
Now for a couple of promises: I will post hard copies of crew lists along with cast lists. I will respond to every position call to confirm receipt, and will follow up with each once selections have been made. I will post production meeting minutes on our website. Finally, I will keep the club well informed of what I am doing and will be open to opinions from every club member, regardless of whether they are a long-time veteran, or if they just rang the doorbell.
As the semester draws to a close, we are preparing for the next batch of shows, and we are looking for people to fill certain positions. If you're interested, email production@dramatech.org. The available positions are:
NOTE: Note not all positions may be available for both shows.
As some of you may know, Sarah Gorday, our Production Manager, has just accepted a job beginning in the Spring. She will be moving to Cleveland, and will be stepping down from her position on the EC at the end of this semester. In light of this, at the last club meeting, we agreed on an abbreviated election procedure that will take place over the coming weeks. This person will hold the position for next Spring, and the club will still have EC elections as normal next semester.
The EC will be accepting nominations for the position of Production Manager till Friday, November 20th. If the nominees accept their nominations, they will have till Tuesday, November 24th, to create a platform and submit it. These platforms will be made available at the club meeting that precedes Dead Week Dinner. Speeches will not be held, but the club will discuss the candidates and then proceed to voting. The candidate that receives the majority of the club's vote will be elected as the new Production Manager for Spring semester.

To make Sidney's writing slump even more painful, Clifford Anderson, a student in one of Sidney's writing seminars, has recently sent his mentor a copy of his first attempt at playwriting for review and advice. Clifford’s play, Deathtrap, is a two act thriller so perfect in its construction that, as Sidney says states even a master playwright could not hurt it. Using his affinity for plot, and out of his desperate desire to once again be the toast of Broadway, Sidney, along with Myra, cook up an almost unthinkable scheme. They'll lure the Clifford to the Bruhl home, kill him, and market the sure-fire script as Sidney's own. But shortly after Clifford arrives, it's clear that things are not what they seem.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dean Emeritus James E. Dull. While you may know the name because it sits over the entrance to DramaTech's theatre, you may not know what a great man he was and what a wonderful support he was to DramaTech. Dean Dull took DramaTech under his wing during his long career at Georgia Tech as the Vice President/Dean of Students. He was influential in the acquisition of DramaTech's current home in the Theatre Complex on the campus of Georgia Tech and for this, the theatre bears his name. For more information, please see Dean Dull's full obituary below.
Dean Dull's memorial will be held Sunday, April 5th at 2 pm at Peachtree Christian Church, 1980 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. He has asked for donations to be made to the DramaTech Scholarship or Peachtree Christian Church Columbarium.
More details about a special memorial for the members and alum of DramaTech to come.
James Edward Dull, 80, VP/Dean of Students Emeritus Georgia Tech died March 22, 2009. He was born and reared in Connellsville, PA, the son of James and Anna Jean Dull. Upon graduation from Connellsville High School, he attended Slippery Rock State University, graduating in 1950 with a BS in Biology and Health/Physical Education. In 1991 he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Slippery Rock.
After serving in the Army (1950-52) during the Korean War, he earned a MS degree in Higher Education with certification in Counseling and Guidance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While in the service he was selected to be on the Modern Pentathlon National Training Team to prepare for the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. In 1955, at Miami University, he met and married Gay Kimbrough who was teaching in the Miami University Laboratory School.
In 1957, after five years at Miami and having risen to the rank of Assistant Dean of Men, he accepted a position at Georgia Tech as Assistant Dean of Students. Three years after arriving at Georgia Tech he was made Associate Dean of Students and four years later in 1964 he became the Dean of Students. He retired in 1991 as Vice President/Dean of Students Emeritus. During his 34 years at Georgia Tech, he served nine seated or acting presidents. Enrollment grew from 5,200 in 1957 to 13,000 in 1991. Female enrollment grew from 11 in 1957 to 3,050 in 1991.
Dean Dull was responsible for the coordination of all disciplinary processes and policies. Additionally, he had administrative charge of all Student Personnel Services and activities outside of the curriculum including New Student and Parent Programs, Residence Halls and Family Housing, Student Counseling, Fraternity Affairs, Religious Affairs, International Student Affairs, Community Services, Student Athletic Complex, Health Services, Handicapped Student Services, Student Publications, Student Radio Station WREK, and all student organizations. His pride and joy was serving as advisor to the Student Government and in this capacity he attended weekly meetings for 33 years.
When he retired in 1991 approximately 80% of the living alumni had been students during his career. He remained in contact and corresponded with many of Tech’s alumni since retiring. He was proud of the dramatic growth of Student Affairs facilities, in both quality and number, during his years of service. Residence hall beds grew in number from 1,100 in 1957 to 4,200 in 1991. Family housing units grew from 220 to 300. Construction included a new 60 bed Health Center, a new Student Center, a new Student Athletic Complex, a new Student Services Building and a Theatre Complex including the Dean James E. Dull DramaTech Theatre. For 31 years his family lived on the campus. During this time his wife, Gay, and he were selected to become honorary alumni of Georgia Tech. Together they wrote a book, It’s For You, Thirty-One Years of Our Life On the Georgia Tech Campus. In 1960 he found and acquired the official Ramblin’ Wreck (a 1929 Cabriolet Ford). Later he designed the costume and persona of “Buzz,” the Yellow Jacket Mascot; he also inspired the design of the signet class ring. In an extracurricular “options” program he taught students beginning Ballroom Dancing for 30 years. He also organized a national championship winning GA Tech College Bowl Team and trained the Wreckette Dancing and Drill Team. In retirement he remained active with the Theatre Complex and wrote a “50-year History of DramaTech” and the forerunner drama organization “The Georgia Tech Marionettes.” He was an active member in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Association of Southern Deans, and Southern College Personnel Association. In addition he was a member of ANAK, ODK, Pi Kappa Phi Social Fraternity and Friends of DramaTech. He served on the Council of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center and the Advisory Board of the Greater Atlanta Council of the Boy Scouts of America (Jim was an Eagle Scout), a member of the Partners Class and the official board of Peachtree Christian Church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gay, two sons: Dr. John R. Dull and wife, Beth of Atlanta and David A. Dull and wife, Cindy of Winter Springs, FL, grandson, Grant Dull and granddaughter, Taylor Dull. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2:00 p.m., at Peachtree Christian Church, 1580 Peachtree Street, N.W., Atlanta, GA 30309. Rev. Neal P. Ponder officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Peachtree Christian Church Columbarium or the DramaTech Scholarship at the Georgia Tech Foundation, 760 Spring Street, N.W., Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30308. A celebration reception at the church will follow the service. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Georgia, Inc.

Set in a lush English manor, Arcadia is a play that revolves between the past and present, blending ideas and events of the past with the present in a completely seamless effort. As manor residents of the present day use old books and objects to reconstruct the events of the past, the past residents live out that history onstage and share the truth, mystery, and genius of their lives. Arcadia is a beautifully written play that offers intrigue and commonality, dark and light, intellectual and emotional.

The President is putting out a call for Open House Chair.
Open House is coming up at the end of the summer semester in Preparation for the incoming Hordes of Freshmen.
The primary responsibilities of the Chair are to plan and run the Open House events during the first week of school in order to maximize our group of incoming freshmen. This could be similar to the setup the past few years with a full week of events ending in two nights of performances, or it could be something new and different. This Open House Chair should be around for (at least most of) the summer and should expect to work with a committee of helpers. Anyone interested in the position should email the President with their query.
Beautification Day is coming up on May 11. Please come out and support DramaTech by cleaning it and making it Beautiful!

For the 2008-2009 school year:
Congratulations!
Elections take place next Wednesday, January 30th at 6pm in the Black Box. The candidates are:
President
Nikky Saint-Aubin: I know that as President, it must be hard to attend every club meeting, EC meeting, and every other committee meeting, but for me it won’t be anything out of the ordinary. The President should take an active interest in Open House, Banquet, and the PRC and shouldn’t just show up because they have to. They should also attend meetings outside of DT, such as the Student Center Programs Committee, SGA, and the CFA Advisory Board. They should be seen as the face of DT to outside organizations. I try my hardest every time I am at DT to help make sure things are running smoothly, I help out whenever and wherever I am needed, and I work to help keep everyone, freshmen through seniors, interested but not run down. I believe these are things the president should try and do every single day. Also, the President should be someone that anyone can come up to. I know the MAL’s job is to act as liaison between the club and the EC, but if anyone has anything they wish to discuss, they should be able to go up to the president and talk to them. Club members shouldn’t feel afraid of the president, or feel that the president isn’t someone they can talk to. The president needs to be a people person. To wrap up, as president I would do my best to attend every single meeting, both at DT and outside organizations that effect DT. I promise to listen to anyone who has an idea or suggestion as to how DT could be run more efficient, and I will try to help incorporate these good ideas into how DT is run. I also promise to continue being a people person and making myself available to anyone who wants to talk.
Brad Knebel: The president needs to be someone whom is easy to approach, knows a lot about the theatre, and gets along with all types of ppl. I have all 3 of these important qualities. Theatre has been a large part of my life since the age of 10 and because of this i know a lot about have a theatre should be run. As a president it is good to be fair to all aspects of theatre and specifically dramatech. I have done front stage, back stage, directed, and improv. By having been and still being invloved in these differing sepectes i am able and will treat all of them fairly and in the best interest of the club as a whole. because I am very good with dealing with all types of ppl this will help when dealing with other organizations on campus as well as with the new AD that will hopefully be present within the next few semesters. This leads me to a fairly large issue. The person voted as President and Prouction mgr namely will have to show the new AD how dramatech works while adapting the club and the AD to eachother. I believe that my ability to work with many different types of ppl and my knowledge of theatre will make it a smoother transition. So vote for me for President.
Julie Dykas: I deserve your vote for President because I am the best candidate. I have proven myself to be organized, reliable, and responsible during my term as Secretary and through other positions in the theater. If elected President, I will focus my energy and attention on the issues that are vital to the club right now. Two of those issues, club membership and DramaTech’s presence on campus, are recurring problems. I think they can be addressed through thoughtful selection of committee chairs, in particular an organized and reliable Open House Chair, and with careful work with the Marketing Director and Production Manager to arrange Housing Nights and Greek Nights far in advance so that hall councils can plan their spending around us. The biggest issue facing the club in the next year is the new Artistic Director who will be coming in. It is especially important this year that our President be strong, reliable, well-spoken, and a good advocate of the club. I’ve been around DramaTech long enough and have seen enough of the inner workings to know what will be right for DramaTech not just now, but for the future. I will help DramaTech to start off our relationship with the new Artistic Director on the right foot, and make sure that any changes that occur will be positive ones. I’m knowledgeable, responsible, and organized, and I’m ready to take on the responsibilities of this role.
Production Manager
Carlin Bright: As production manager I will focus on scheduling and promptness, communication, and efficiency, both in shows and in the theater as a whole. As marketing director, I have learned how to not only make reasonable schedules and adhere to them, but how to get others to adhere to my schedules as well, while recognizing that being a student comes first and building in cushion time based on that assumption. I would also like to make production meetings accessible to the entire club, with minutes being taken and posted alongside the club minutes. These will not only allow club members to have access to the information disclosed at these meetings, but hold the designers and technicians to a higher accountability. I will also give the show budget more attention at production meetings, encouraging show staff to keep accurate records and to try and stay within their budgets. I am familiar, if not directly experienced, with all aspects of putting on a production, and so would be able to identify and staff capable designers and technicians. Also, I will do my best not only to choose the right people for design positions, but try to choose the best team. We’re a family here, and personal problems are sometimes an inevitability. I will do my best to identify these early, and keep them from affecting a show. I will also encourage people to take on more assistant design positions to diversify the technical knowledge base in the theater and enlarge our pool of designers. I plan to make staff choices more public, posting them alongside cast lists as well as notifying choices to all who were interested through email without undue delay. Finally, I promise to make myself available at the theater at regular times, as well as constantly through email or by phone. I love this theater as much as I know all of you do, and would be more than happy to help keep it running.
Deech Madhavan: There are several key points that I would like to work on as Production Manager. First off, communication between people, such as the designers and director, is something that I would like to overemphasize. This has been a weakness in the past that I would like to address and make sure that people talk to each other. Deadlines are also something that we all have been rather slack with recently. For productions, I will set specific deadlines for various milestones that we must pass through and adhere to them. This will ensure that productions remain on schedule and force designers to not get bogged down in small issues. Nobody likes to be criticized, but I can take criticism and adversity with a straight face and use it in the most constructive way possible. I am also very easy to talk to and am willing and able to listen to people should they have any issues. If people have questions, I am always willing to help out to the best of my ability. If I can't help them, I will make sure that people get in touch with those that can. This also means that when it comes time to pick production staff, I want to incorporate new blood as much as possible, so that the knowledge accrued by the experienced people will be passed down to the novices. I will have an unbiased view on staffing positions. There are many factors to keep in mind, including how big/complicated the show is, experience, how many shows someone has done recently, etc. I want to make sure that people get the positions they request, however, I have to be watchful and make sure that they don't burn themselves out or do it so often that others don't have the opportunities to learn. I want to make sure that the production positions have a clear definition of their duties. When uncertainty exists, conflict can occur that is detrimental to the artistic process and to the production. The Production Manager must act as a liaison between CFA production staff and DramaTech to ensure that they stay in contact with us with regards to their usage of our space and vice versa. The role of Production Manager is something that I will take very seriously. If I am given a task to do, I won't skive off and abandon the job. I will make sure that it is done, no matter what personal sacrifice I may have to make. For past productions, I have been at the theater till early hours of the morning making sure that everything is ready. In conclusion, DramaTech is a place for us to play and learn. It is a hobby and it is important that people know that and are happy with what they are doing . This is something to keep in mind over everything we do. Nothing we do here should be overly stressful or detract from the fun of being an amateur theater, for if we don't have fun with what we do, then what's the point of even being here? People are here to enjoy themselves and learn a great art.
Brad Knebel: The production mgr needs to know the ins and outs of the theatre. He or she needs to be able to know what positions are needed and what they will call for. Since the 6th grade i have been heavily involved in my schools theatre programs in all aspects and that has continued here to dramatech. Another important quality that a production mgr needs to have it that he or she can fairly asses all situations and ppl or that he or she can separate work in pleasure. I have always done my best to keep my feelings about ppl involved with a show separate from the feelings about them as a person. Also, I get along with may different types of ppl and am easy to work with which is a quality needed in a mgr type position as this. Also, the production mgr and the new AD will work vary closly together to figure out how to run this theatre. because of this, the production mgr needs to know a lot about dramatech and also has to be good with dealing with ppl so that the end result is something that the club and the new AD can live with and be happy and work with.So vote for me as production mgr.
Business Manager
Scott McGraw: As business manager for DramaTech theater, I would make it my duty to be as available as possible to the members of the club, and would endeavor to rapidly learn everything necessary to adequately fill the position. Now, while I certainly cannot claim to know everything there is about the theater, my involvement with Let's Try This!, set parties, as well as various other DramaTech activities deserves no small amount of consideration. I expect that during my term as business manager I would be able to maintain the club's confidence in the position, shifting my involvement to yet another facet of DramaTech theater.
Robbie Glenn: As Business Manager, I will make sure that budgets for shows are fair and finalized early in preparation. I will personally meet with designers and directors and will help make decisions about what is needed and what is possible. I plan to work closely with the production manager, because I feel that the two positions thrive on one another. After all, we can’t have a show with no money, and we won’t get any money without putting on some shows. I plan to scrutinize the finances of DramaTech, because I feel that such attention to detail is necessary. I will be here each semester and will keep a close watch on all the happenings of the theater in attempt to increase efficiency.
Nikky Saint-Aubin: There are 3 traits I believe a business manager should have: Dependability, organization, and communication. Anyone who has worked with me knows that I am dependable. For every show I have costumed, I have had the costumes complete on time, usually even before time. I will make sure to have budgets ready the semester before the show, as per the PPM, and I will use my amazing hounding skill to make sure receipts are turned in and the process of paying people back for receipts gets done in a timely manner. As for organization, last semester while I was co-oping I became the organizer because no one else wanted or knew how to keep their papers organized. I became the person everyone came to for receipts, papers, or office supplies. I will do my best to keep everything organized so the theater runs smoothly from the monetary stand point. Last, there is communication. I swear, that while I am business manager, everyone will know exactly what I am doing. Whether I am still collecting receipts, working on budget, getting people paid back, or any other responsibility I have, everyone will know exactly where I am in that process.
Marketing Director
David Hollis: As Marketing Director, I will effectively maintain ties with external organizations and work towards forging new ones. I will organize groups to help with promotion of shows including flyering, chalking, and placing posters. I feel that I am more than capable of handling the pressures and the time requirements of the job.
Secretary
Melinda Ellington:I would be a fantastic choice for secretary for a number of reasons. First of all, I'm pretty organized, and know how to get a job done (example: MacBeth). I have been in a leadership position before at my high school and enjoyed it immensely, and am always eager to take on new responsibilities and challenges. I enjoy keeping people informed on what's going on, and usually have a fairly accurate notion of events. I'm always looking for more excuses to spend time online, so having to check the email would make my day, and I'm a quick typer, so taking minutes would be fairly easy. Aside from these qualifications, I'm a fairly easy-going person, and, in my mind, approachable. This is something that I think is very important for members of the EC, and I would do my best to be able to keep in touch with both sides of the divide. That and I'm looking ahead to the future, and think that I would enjoy remaining on the EC, possibly going for higher positions, although I'm not sure which ones yet. Being Secretary would give me good experience and knowledge of the inner workings of the EC, and it would allow me to become more involved with DT, which is the ultimate goal.
Victoria Schlensker: As secretary of DramaTech, I would keep all members up-to-date on all the activities going on around DT. I know that some people who would like to participate in many events such as set construction are unaware of the schedule. With a little more advertisement, more people would be encouraged to participate and help DramaTech grow even more. I think that communication between the Executive Council and the other members of DramaTech is essential. I would take very detailed notes during the meetings and make sure that anyone who is interested in the goings-on in DT is made aware of them. I have learned to manage my time well and I am very organized and dedicated. I think that I am very friendly and people can talk to me easily. I have taken on responsibility around DT both onstage and offstage and I've have already learned a lot in the semester that I have been here. I think that I would learn even more during my time as secretary so I would one day be able to run for Production Manager, Marketing Director or even President. And Deech: As far as any weakness as secretary, I did come up with one. I still do attend school and at times, I may be preoccupied with homework and studying for tests. However, I have already learned the hard way about time management over the first semester here at Tech, and I will make sure that I organize my time well so I can perform all my duties responsibly.

This a call to arms for those who enjoy the excitement of performing musical theater. DramaTech's own variety troop, VarietyTech, will be staging a show this semester. This is an opportunity for you to bring your talents to the table. Singing, dancing, acting are the standards, but anything of variety is fair game.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, September 30th at 7:00 PM in DramaTech Theater. The show dates are November 29th - December 1st, with tech week running from the preceding Sunday. We will have rehearsals during October and November, normally on Sunday through Thursday evenings. You will not need to be there every night.
For auditions, no piece preparation is necessary, but wear comfortable clothes and shoes for dancing and bring warmed-up voices for singing. Also, bring a complete schedule so that you can note conflicts (evening classes, outside commitments, etc.).
If you want to have a major say in what this theater is doing next year, join the Play Reading Committee (PRC). The PRC is selected each Fall to winnow through all of the plays in existence and present a slate of shows in the Spring for the club at large to vote on. It will involve reading through plays and weekly meetings to discuss the afore-mentioned plays. If you are interested, there is a sign-up sheet on the board in the stairwell. You can also email me at president@dramatech.org. Sign-up ends on September 26th.

President

Congratulations to our new Member At Large, Brad Knebel.
The summer is over (despite what the heat says), and now we return to the grind of school. DramaTech is here to offer you a respite from the pain and suffering of the boring lectures and excruciating labs. We have many shows this semester to entertain and delight you into forgetting that homework due tomorrow or that paper due next month.
First is the 4th annual Black Box Improv Festival September 20th-23rd, an event containing workshops on improvisational techniques during the day and shows in the evenings. That same week on September 19th and 21st we will be putting on the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater in association with the Student Center Program's Council. Finally, we turn to the immortal bard and his classic tragedy Macbeth. There will be blood; there will be gore; there will be deceit, betrayal, insanity, witches and spots that just won't come out. Come by October 26th through November 10th.
Dramatech will be holding a makeup workshop on Sunday, September 9th. This workshop is open to anyone, but especially those interested in learning about the intricacies of stage makeup and effects.

At our last club meeting, we put up risers and voted on the next season for the Theater. The musical we will be performing is Urinetown, and the straight play we will do in the Summer is going to be What Happened to Mr. Sugarlumpkins.
Our next club meeting will be the last one of this semester, and its going to be on the 25th of April.
We are also opening Enemy of the People Friday the 13th! The show will run the 13-14th, and the 18-21st. Come see the show!
This Wednesday at the club meeting we will be voting on the shows for next Spring and Summer. Everyone who has an interest in what sort DramaTech does should attend.
Additionally, we will be putting up risers for An Enemy of the People which opens this Friday.
Congratulations to our new Executive Council!
In other news, Jon is still searching for a sound designer for Enemy of the People. If you're interested, contact him at jon@dramatech.org.
Our next club meeting will be March 28th. See everyone there!
Voting for next years Executive Council will be this Wednesday, March 7 at 6 pm. The current postitions to be voted on are President, Business Manager, and Secretary. The two nominees, with their platforms, for President are:
Eric Sample-As president, I will work on what I see as the two largest problems currently facing DramaTech: our presence on campus (or lack thereof), and recruitment. These both greatly affect the future of our club. To work on our presence on campus, I will reach out to the different colleges on campus to try to set up programs for them to participate with DramaTech, I will contact the Resident Housing Association to get them involved in pitching DramaTech shows as a social event for residents, and will contact the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council along similar lines. These efforts should also help spur recruitment because the more well known DramaTech is to the campus, the more people will come to participate as members. Unfortunately this is not enough for recruitment, because we all know that recruitment greatly depends on getting them early, so I will make it one of my top priorities to keep in contact with the Freshman in the Fall and through the Spring.
Nicole Saint-Aubin- I have noticed in my two years here at Drama Tech, that the club is not advertised very well. I believe that we should start advertising the club meetings. Putting up fliers, chalking a few times, and maybe even a banner in front of the Student Center. Talking with different fraternity and sororities as well as people who are PLs and CAs would help as well. The club should not only involve people who are involved in shows, but also people from the college community, so we can get their input as to how we can improve their experience at the shows. Another thing that needs to be changed is how we handle incoming freshman. It seems that as soon as the first week is over, no one is in charge of keeping in touch with the freshman. Many freshman attend so many meetings during the first week, that they tend to forget about them as soon as they leave. I believe that keeping in touch with them, telling them about all the auditions, shows, work and light parties that we have as well as just generally trying to see how they are doing will help improve the number of freshmen that will stay around. I am also very interested in how Drama Tech is run, and I believe this position will help me with that.
The nominees for Business Manager are:
Allison Hundley-I am very interested in learning how DramaTech is run and holding the position of Business Manager would give me that opportunity. I want to take a look at the budget to see if there are ways to set aside more money for the constant recruitment of new DT members. Another example is I would like to maybe move money around in a show so that there would be more money for set design and dressing and a little less for costumes.
Nicole Saint-Aubin- I have been told many times over that if you want to learn about the inside workings of DT, you need to talk to the Business Manager. That is exactly what I want to do: learn about how DT works. I had not thought about what I would like to change when I became Business Manager. As far as I knew, everything was being run smoothly. I would try to remind people daily about turning in receipts so they would get paid back in a timely manner, and I would also try and keep track of who bought stuff as they bought it, before I got the receipts, in case anyone forgets. If there was anything not paid back, or any other issues about where money was going and such, I would try my hardest to solve the problem.
The nominees for Secretary are:
Julie Dykas-As secretary I would like to increase communication to the club members, particularly about meeting times. In addition to alerting members of the Facebook group several days in advance, I will post physical notices around DT the weekend before the meeting announcing the day and time as well as anything of particular import that will be on the agenda. I would also put announcements on the DramaTech website. Id also like to post the minutes on one of the notice boards in addition to the website so that people who miss meetings have an easy way to find out what happened. Ive got my schedule very well organized, and manage my time incredibly well. Im great at taking notes and meeting deadlines, and I think I would do an amazing job as secretary. I am definitely interested in running for other positions in the future, though Im not sure yet which one(s). President, Production Manager, and Business Manager are all appealing to me, and I hope that serving as Secretary will allow me to learn enough about the other positions to help me choose.
Brittany Roberts-I am a dedicated, organized individual who will enjoy being the secretary of Drama Tech. I don't know of any short term goals to improve the well-being of DT currently, but I will bake something for your votes in order to create short term happiness.
Brad Knebel- (Platform not available)

If you are interested in being a member of the committee or the chairperson this year or if you would like additional information regarding banquet, committee duties and chair duties, email Kelly Lefler at president@dramatech.org.

Once upon a time, someone decided it would be a good idea to do 26 straight hours of improv comedy. He was wrong. Nonetheless, DramaTech's Improv Troupe Let's Try This! has been doing it twice a year ever since. Many people around here even think it's a fun time.
All are welcome to attend if they're interested in participating. No prior experience is required, and most prior experience will be unhelpful anyway. Things get started at 10am sharp Saturday October 8th and run straight through to 12 noon October 9th.
Come brave the weird. You know you want to.

DramaTech would like to extend a warm welcome to all of Georgia Tech's new students. As usual, DramaTech will be kicking off the new school year with our annual Open House. This is a great way for people on campus to get to know DramaTech, and people's first big opportunity to get involved. Although you should definitely check out the official Open House website for full details, some of what we'll be doing this year is as follows:
For those of you who are a little new to campus, you can find us on the campus map here. We're at the opposite end of the Ferst Center building (the big auditorium where you all went for FASET).
From east campus you can find us by walking to the end of Skiles Walkway, turning right, and walking up the hill (past the amphitheater). We're at the top of the hill on your left (look for the stained glass windows).
If you're coming form the west campus dorms you'll walk right past us if you're on the way to the Shaft or anything else in the center of campus. Look for the stained glass on the side of our building along with the DramaTech banner.
Of course, if you have any questions feel free to email info@dramatech.org.
As you can see, the DramaTech website has a new look. We hope you like it. Questions or comments may be directed to the webmaster.
